A Better Look
There was a time when dentists would tell their patients to "open wide!" before attempting to diagnose the source of tooth discomfort. But, of course, this was a simplistic method, and no matter how hard a patient tried, they could not open their mouth "wider" to expose the depth of tiny oral troubles practically unnoticeable to the naked eye.
It's hard to believe that dentists have ever practiced without the advancements made possible by x-ray technology. X-ray images, also called radiographs, allow dentists to see problems that have yet to reach the tooth enamel's outermost layer. With digital x-rays, Dr. Mikhail Gankin of Port St. Lucie has saved numerous teeth and spared countless patients from further suffering.
Less Radiation
Digital radiography, or digital x-ray, is the newest way to take teeth X-rays. Instead of X-ray film, this method uses an electronic sensor that takes a digital picture and stores it on a computer. This image can be seen and enlarged immediately, making it easier for the dentist and dental hygienist to spot problems. In addition, digital x-rays use 80–90% less radiation than traditional dental x-rays, which already use very little radiation.
Dental x-rays are essential diagnostic and preventive tools that show important information that can't be seen during a regular dental exam. Dr. Gankin uses this information to find hidden dental problems and make a treatment plan that is safe and accurate. With x-rays, it might be possible to find problem areas.
Early Detection

Early detection and treatment of dental problems can save you time, money, extra pain, and even your teeth.
An Important Tool
Digital X-rays are one of the essential tools in Dr. Gankin's back pocket to ensure you get the best care with less radiation exposure and instant results. During your initial appointment, you can almost guarantee that Dr. Gankin will want X-rays to check your tooth's condition.
Instant Imaging
For our digital x-rays to work, our dentists carefully place a small electronic sensor inside your mouth.
Then, the picture we take is instantly blown up on a computer screen, making it easy to see any signs of an abscess, tooth decay, gum disease, or a jaw that isn't in the right place. In addition, because this instant method doesn't need to be chemically processed, it cuts radiation exposure by a considerable amount.
Compared to traditional film, all digital radiography can reduce radiation exposure by up to 80%. Standard digital dental X-rays do not expose people to a lot of radiation. One bitewing X-ray, the standard way to check for cavities between the back teeth, gives off about 0.001 mSv of radiation.
A majority of dental insurance generally covers X-rays.
Teeth problems only persist and get more painful without proper treatment. Sometimes it takes a specialist like Mikhail Gankin, DMD, to provide that relief. Dr. Gankin works in tandem with referring dentists and oral surgeons to ensure that patients get the best care in as few visits as possible. His goal is pain relief. Whether it’s a patient's teeth, insurance, or anything else that makes it difficult to get care, he will work diligently to help restore healthy smiles.
